Extreme Makeover Home Edition was a great TV Show, but what happens when the homeowners can’t afford the upkeep of their new home?
The show’s producers would choose a deserving family and build them a new, larger and much more expensive home. The dersevrving family is beyond thrilled! However, many of these homes have gone into foreclosure as the owners borrowed against the homes to pay taxes, increased insurance and heating and cooling expenses typical of a larger and more expensive home. These homes can be difficult to turn around and sell because they are built on existing lots, in neighborhoods with much less expensive and smaller homes.
Sadie Holmes’ house is one example. It is now in foreclosure and located in the Alamonte Springs, Florida area, 4300 sq feet and listed for $335,000.
The beautiful Florida style home does not fit in with the surrounding smaller older ranch homes.
Great kitchen cabinetry and a really weird blue wall color. I’d change that to a neutral tone. Looks like they sold the stove in the yard sale that the homeowner reportedly had to have to raise money for legal bills.
Beautiful tiled floors and lovely archway. But, a sliding glass door? Why not some lovely french doors Mr. Ty Pennington?
What a great mudroom! Love the floors.
Umm, obviously a girls room that had a bunch of TVs on the wall.
Every little girl wants studio lights in their room, right?
I’m pretty sure when a potential home buyer walks into this room, they scream!
Honestly, who doesn’t want a creepy cave in their home? Caves are not stylish…just sayin.
Sadie Holmes is the the nonprofit founder chosen for the home makeover and now faces losing her home to foreclosure. Her Sadie Holmes Help Service house helps a handful of adults who would otherwise be homeless. She helps them get back on their feet. Unfortunately, she is now the one in need of help.
I wish that the show would take into consideration that these people that they are handing the keys to the castle, cannot really afford the castle! Perhaps that is part of the reason the show was cancelled last year.
