After a week at the beach I am well rested and ready to dive back in to some client projects and projects of my own! One project that we did before we left for the beach was giving our garage door a little mini makeover. The goal was to make it look more like a carriage style garage door. We had the house painted a new color and I love it! Full post on new house color here. When it came to the garage door, I knew I wanted to paint it the same darker tone as the new house color. I had the painter trim out the windows in our Dover White trim color and boy did that make them stand out!
You can see the before pictures here.
Adding the black carriage door hardware was easy peasy! I popped over to Home Depot to pick up a carriage door hardware kit and was delighted to find that the kit I liked was on clearance. Wait for it….for ONLY….$3.98!!! Are you kidding me? My teen daughter was doing eye rolls at me while I did my little happy dance in the aisle!
Once I was back at the house, I nicely demanded asked Mr. Stylish to pretty please put up my new awesome, clearance-priced hardware! He was more than happy to on a hot and humid afternoon!
First, you need to position the straps where you want them and mark the holes with a pencil.
Then, drill the strap holes and screw in the little screws. The screws are very short.
Next, you do the same thing with the handles. Make sure you read the directions for mounting the handles, if you are actually going to use the handles to open the door. Mine are just for aesthetics so I didn’t need to use the reinforcement thingy.
Viola! Carriage style garage door for less than five bucks and five minutes! Yay!!!
I am so pleased with how this turned out! It’s a happy day when you can make a garage door more stylish!
