Want to save some $$ on microwave popcorn? Or, just want something fun to do with the kids? Make your own microwave popcorn. For a couple of dollars you can get a bag of popcorn kernels that will make bags and bags of popped goodness. And, you control the calories and flavors!
Here’s what you need:
1 brown (lunch size) paper bag (bag will get greasy and you may want to double bag it!)
1/4 cup popcorn (you can use 1/2 cup popcorn for larger brown bag)
1/4 cup vegetable oil, flavorings (I used mixed up salt)
*1/4 popcorn makes about 10 cups
Press the “popcorn” setting on your microwave. Pay attention to popping sounds, when there is not much popping it’s time to stop! Some microwaves require additional seconds added. Just make sure to stay with it and pay attention, cause nothing smells up your house more than burnt popcorn!
Another great way to flavor your popcorn is with this recipe..Italian Herb & Cheese Popcorn: Keep 10 cups cooked popcorn warm in a 200°F oven. Melt 2-4 tablespoons butter, then stir in 1-2 teaspoons dried Italian herbs, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese and salt and pepper to taste. Toss with still-warm popcorn.
You can also get crazy and add fun flavors to your popped popcorn. See all the Kernel’s flavors here.
Now we are ready to watch a movie in the Teen Movie Room! Pass the popcorn please!
